Hi, this is Josh Weiss of 10 to 1 Public Relations. A lot of companies are coming forward and asking me for some advice on what they can do to help their businesses during COVID-19 from a public relations perspective. I wanted to create a few videos to give a couple ideas that companies can implement on their own during this unusual time. The lesson for today is about following the leader. For most businesses, it’s okay to be following the leader and doing what other people are doing at the same time and how they’re talking about this crisis. They don’t need to be at the front line. So think of it like you know how important it is to flatten the curve right now, you actually wanna be in the middle of the curve from a business perspective, in most cases for most businesses right now. What I mean by that is think of a couple of weeks ago, when this was first beginning and every company you can think of and everyone who ever had your email address is sending you a note saying that we’re aware of COVID-19 and we’re still staying open and we’re washing our hands and you should too. You wanna put that letter out when everyone else is putting their letter out from your business’s perspective, because nobody’s gonna remember that you did it, they’re gonna remember if you were very late in sending that out because they’re gonna think you didn’t care about your employees and you didn’t care about their safety. So when you’re sending out those announcements, you wanna get lost in the crowd and that’s okay. Certain times, you wanna be at the very front of that line, you wanna be the first to put something out, you wanna own that issue. Totally appropriate, but you need to be really, really strong and you need to know that you’re doing it for the right reasons and why you’re doing it. So oftentimes, if you wanna be that front leader, you might as well do it for something that’s directly gonna help your business. And something that’s really gonna let you stand out to your customers and potential customers. Most of the time, you’re just going to follow the leader, you’re gonna be in the middle of the crowd, get lost in it during the crisis for the generic stuff that everybody is doing at the same time and that’s okay. On behalf of all of us at 10 to 1 Public Relations, stay safe, stay positive, and please wash your hands.
